Team Nigeria Qualifies for 2027 World Athletics Championships

Team Nigeria has successfully secured two additional tickets to the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China, following impressive performances at the World Relay Championships held at the National Stadium in Gaborone, Botswana. The team achieved a historic run in the mixed 4x100m relay, with the quartet of Favour Ash, Obi Jennif, Chukwuka Chidera Ezeakor, and Maria Thompson Omokw clocking a blistering time of 40.24 seconds, setting a new African record and earning Nigeria its first-ever ticket to the event.

Additionally, the mixed 4x400m relay team, anchored by Chidi Okezi, alongside Nathaniel Ezekiel, Taiwo Mari Kudoro, and Patience Okon, delivered a season-best time of 3:12.88, securing qualification. The women's 4x100m team, despite a baton mishap, bounced back to clock 42.94 seconds.

The performances highlight the strength of Nigeria's home-based athletes and the importance of grassroots investment in athletics.
