Joseph Tegbe Enhances Nigeria's Power Infrastructure

Joseph Tegbe was appointed Minister of Power amid skepticism regarding his ability to effect change in the sector. In his first 100 days, he has focused on enhancing coordination across the power value chain, aiming for reliable and affordable electricity for every Nigerian.

Key infrastructure upgrades include the commissioning of 840MVA of new capacity in Lagos, with significant enhancements at substations in Alausa, Lekki, and Ijora. Upcoming installations are planned for Bauchi, Birni Kebbi, Kano, Benin, and Port Harcourt.

Tegbe's strategy also includes a comprehensive technical audit of the national grid, targeting major energy corridors. Furthermore, over 300 long-abandoned containers have been cleared from ports, facilitating the deployment of critical equipment by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

As of September 22, Nigeria's power sector recorded a total available generation of 5,403.3 MW. Tegbe is also improving stakeholder engagement through partnerships with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Inspector-General of Police.
