Telecom Sector to Boost Nigeria's GDP to 10.07% by 2025

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the telecommunications sector in Nigeria is anticipated to contribute 10.07% to the nation's real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by the fourth quarter of 2025. This marks an increase from the 9.79% contribution recorded in 2024.

The GDP calculation for the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector includes telecommunications, information services, publishing, motion pictures, sound recording, music production, and broadcasting. The telecommunications sector is projected to account for 7.29% of the total contribution, with the remaining 3% attributed to other industries within the ICT sector.

The sector's growth rate is expected to reach 26.34% year-on-year, reflecting an 8.37-point increase from the previous year. Dr.

Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), noted that the sector had previously contributed 14.58% to GDP before recent challenges. The report indicates a stronger economic expansion compared to earlier quarters, with GDP growth recorded at 3.98% year-on-year for Q3 2025.
