Thailand Revises Visa Rules, Limits Entry Options for 2026

Thailand has implemented new visa entry rules that took effect on 15 September 2026, following their publication in the Royal Gazette on 31 August 2026. The changes terminate the previous 60-day visa-free arrangement that had been in place since July 2024.
Under the new regulations, nationals from 60 countries and territories are granted 30 days of visa-free entry into Thailand. However, the visa on arrival option has been restricted to just three countries.
Additionally, two African island nations have been classified separately under the new rules, allowing their citizens a different visa arrangement. The overhaul has resulted in the removal of visa-free privileges for 21 nationalities, who will now be required to apply for a visa prior to traveling to Thailand.
Long-stay visa categories, including Thailand Privilege, Long-Term Resident (LTR), Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), retirement, work, student, and marriage visas, remain unaffected by these changes.
