PDP Condemns Rivers Lawmakers' Defection to APC as Reckless Betrayal

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has vehemently criticized 17 lawmakers in Rivers State for defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing them of betraying the democratic process. The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, announced the defection during a plenary session, citing alleged divisions within the PDP.

The PDP's National Public Secretary, Ini Ememobong, described the lawmakers' actions as destabilizing the legislature for political gain. The defection has raised concerns about the delay in submitting a list of commission nominees by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, leading to tensions within the assembly.
