Nwankwo Urges Nigerians to Resist Senate's Electoral Act Amendment, Warns of Chaos

Clement Nwankwo, speaking on a morning show, expressed reservations following the Senate's passage of the Electoral Act 2022 repeal, reenact, and amendment bill in 2026. The Senate rejected proposed amendments to clause 60 subsection 3, which sought to make electronic transmission of election results mandatory.

Nwankwo warned that the Senate's current version of the bill undermines the credibility of future elections and urged Nigerians to continue speaking out against it. He highlighted that the version passed by the Senate does not reflect the positive changes many lawmakers and citizens desired.

The dissatisfaction stems from the lack of consensus reached with citizens and stakeholders, advocating for the adoption of a version that better reflects public consultations and stakeholder inputs.
