Thieves Steal Blessed Sacrament from Imo Church

On April 29, 2026, a break-in at St. Mulumba Parish in Owerri, Imo State, resulted in the theft of the Blessed Sacrament.

The incident was disclosed by Rev. Fr.

Patrick C. Mbarah, the Archdiocesan Chancellor, in a letter addressed to priests and the laity of the Owerri Archdiocese.

It was reported that the perpetrators accessed the chapel by opening a part of the roof during rainfall. The Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, Rev.

Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, expressed great sadness over the desecration and directed parishioners to observe a week of prayer and reparations from May 1 to May 8, 2026, daily from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. He emphasized the need for strict adherence to established norms regarding the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament to prevent future occurrences, highlighting that the Blessed Sacrament was left unattended during the exposition.
