Tinubu Allocates N10bn for Ebola Preparedness in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu approved the release of N10 billion in emergency funding aimed at strengthening Nigeria's preparedness against a potential Ebola outbreak, following renewed case reports in parts of Africa. The announcement was made by Tinubu's special adviser on information strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday.

The intervention is designed to reinforce the nation's health security system and improve rapid response capacity. The funds will primarily support the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) as part of the response to the Ebola virus disease.

Additionally, Tinubu approved the establishment of a presidential task force to address the public health threat posed by Ebola. This task force will be chaired by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and will include relevant federal agencies and state representatives.

The move follows concerns regarding Ebola outbreaks reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, prompting Nigeria to enhance border and airport surveillance to prevent the importation of the virus.
