Tinubu Advocates for Responsible AI Use at UN Assembly

At the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, President Bola Tinubu called for the responsible deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) to transform key sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, governance, and economic productivity in Nigeria and across Africa. Representing Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima stated that emerging technologies could either catalyze development or be misused, depending on their deployment.

He highlighted the significant opportunities AI presents for advancing the economy and urged African nations to embrace technological innovation rather than succumb to fear. Shettima noted that Nigeria is expanding its digital infrastructure to support its young population, who are already contributing to technology-driven development.

He mentioned ongoing investments in digital public infrastructure, broadband connectivity, and innovation ecosystems, inviting global collaboration to direct AI towards beneficial outcomes for humanity.
