Tinubu Approves NYSC Reforms for Youth Development

President Bola Tinubu has defended the recent overhaul of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), stating that Nigeria requires a new approach to youth development. The reforms, approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Monday, are part of Tinubu's administration's commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for Nigerian youth, particularly women.

The NYSC, established in 1973, has played a vital role in promoting national unity over the past five decades. However, Tinubu emphasized the need for modernization to align with current realities.

The approved reforms include a technology-driven deployment system, enhanced orientation camp programs focusing on entrepreneurship and digital skills, and improvements in camp standards. Additionally, the traditional passing-out parade for new graduates will be replaced with a new ceremony.

These changes are expected to improve the welfare of corps members and align the NYSC program with Nigeria's current developmental priorities.
