President Tinubu Travels to Makkah for Umrah Pilgrimage

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu left Abuja for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform the Umrah, also known as the lesser hajj. The presidential aircraft, an Airbus A330-200, took off at approximately 2.20 pm.
He was seen off at the airport by several governors, including AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Babagana Zulum of Borno, Uba Sani of Kaduna, Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto, Umar Namadi of Jigawa, and Mai Mala Buni of Yobe. Other officials present included Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico Reno Omokri, and other government officials.
The trip was announced by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, who stated that the visit would provide an opportunity for spiritual reflection and prayers for the nation's peace, unity, stability, and progress. Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria next week.
This marks his second Umrah since taking office, with the first occurring in November 2023.
