El-Rufai Faces Prosecution Under Tinubu's Administration

Nasir El-Rufai, the former two-term governor of Kaduna State and former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is currently detained and facing prosecution under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he significantly supported during the 2023 presidential election. El-Rufai played a crucial role in advocating for Tinubu's candidacy, particularly emphasizing the need for power to shift back to southern Nigeria after Muhammadu Buhari's presidency.

He was a vocal opponent of the naira redesign policy introduced by the Buhari administration, which many believed aimed to undermine Tinubu's electoral chances. El-Rufai's close political relationship with Tinubu was evident during Tinubu's December 2022 appearance at Chatham House, where El-Rufai was called upon to answer questions, indicating the trust Tinubu placed in him.
