SERAP Urges Transparency in Selection of New INEC Chairman

Civil rights group SERAP has called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure transparency in selecting the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). With the tenure of Professor Mahmood Yakubu ending in November 2025, SERAP emphasized the need for an open and fair appointment process to maintain the credibility of the electoral body.

The group urged Tinubu to disclose the names under consideration for the role and ensure consultation with the Council of State as required by the constitution. SERAP cautioned against secrecy in the appointment to uphold the integrity of the electoral process for the 2027 elections.
