President Tinubu celebrated Nigeria's unbroken democratic streak since 1999 and announced security force recruitment to support upcoming elections.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu used Democracy Day remarks to highlight Nigeria's 27-year span of continuous civilian governance, dating back to May 29, 1999. The milestone represents the nation's longest period of unbroken democratic rule in its modern history, during which power transfers between elected leaders have occurred through ballots rather than force.

The President emphasized that Nigeria's democratic foundation rests on peaceful transitions of authority and the resolution of disputes through courts and legislative chambers instead of violence. He identified the judiciary, national assembly, press, and civil society organizations as essential institutional safeguards for the democratic system. Tinubu stated that democracy erodes when citizens lose confidence in electoral processes and governance institutions.

To strengthen security ahead of upcoming elections in states including Ekiti and Osun, the federal government announced plans to recruit 50,000 new police officers and additional military personnel. The administration directed the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies to collaborate with political parties to guarantee peaceful and credible elections.

Tinubu called on younger Nigerians to participate actively in the electoral process and nation-building efforts. He acknowledged that while Nigeria's democratic system remains imperfect, the government remains committed to its continuous improvement and preservation for future generations.
