Tinubu names Wike, Adeleke, Soludo to 2027 campaign council

The 2027 presidential election campaign machinery under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed three coordinators from opposition ranks. Nyesom Wike, a Peoples Democratic Party figure serving as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, joins Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke (Accord Party) and Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo (All Progressives Grand Alliance) in these roles.

On October 13, 2026, this expanded council received its formal announcement. Friction has emerged within the ruling All Progressives Congress following these appointments.

Concerns centre on the sidelining of loyal party members in favour of representatives from rival political organisations. Some within the APC have voiced worries that such a strategy could weaken internal party solidarity.

Concurrently, candidates from opposition parties have raised questions about their own leaders' involvement in supporting Tinubu's bid, fearing damage to their prospects in contests involving ruling-party nominees. Defending these choices, Segun Showunmi, part of the campaign's media apparatus, voiced optimism regarding the selected coordinators' capacity to secure their respective states.

He acknowledged that disagreements naturally surface in an organisation as expansive as the APC but predicted eventual consensus among all participants supporting the President's electoral ambitions. Proponents view this appointment strategy as reflecting political inclusion rather than its opposite.

Another element shaping campaign operations stems from recommendations by a governor-led group headed by Hope Uzodimma. They have advised limiting Tinubu's physical campaign travel across the nation's 36 states, citing obligations arising from executive responsibilities.

This guidance has attracted disapproval from observers who regard direct grassroots engagement as indispensable for Nigerian electoral contests.
