Tinubu Advocates Revenue Reform for National Prosperity

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the 16-storey Nigerian Revenue Service (NRS) headquarters in Abuja, stressing that no serious nation can prosper with a weak and fragmented revenue system. He highlighted that the current taxation system, rooted in colonial-era laws, is inefficient and unjust, which undermines public trust.

Tinubu announced that a new tax law will become fully operational by January 2026, aimed at liberating the economy from outdated constraints and fostering global competitiveness. He committed to confronting structural weaknesses and restoring financial stability to build an equitable economy.

Tinubu commended Dr. Zacch Adedeji, the Executive Chairman of NRS, for his leadership and emphasized the importance of the NRS as a revenue hub equipped with technology to support data-driven policies.

He urged the NRS to uphold the highest standards of transparency and efficiency to earn public confidence. The President also addressed the need for fiscal reforms to create a fair and investment-friendly environment.
