Tinubu Orders Free Healthcare Access for Low-Income Retirees, Minimum Pension Guarantee Under CPS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate implementation of free healthcare access for low-income retirees enrolled in the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). This directive follows a briefing from the State House National Pension Commission (PenCom) Omolola Oloworaran.

Tinubu emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity and social protection of Nigeria's senior citizens, especially those living on limited incomes. He also called for the swift implementation of a previously approved pension increase and the rollout of a minimum pension guarantee to shield vulnerable retirees from economic hardship.

The President also addressed the crisis in the police pension system, demanding immediate reforms to ensure that officers who have served the nation can retire with dignity and peace of mind. The reforms proposed by PenCom include measures to protect pension assets from inflation and stabilize the value of retirees' savings.

Additionally, there are plans to introduce foreign currency pension contributions to allow Nigerians in the diaspora to participate in the national pension scheme, increasing inclusiveness and resilience.
