Tinubu Honors Rev. Jesse Jackson's Legacy in Tribute

On Tuesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed his condolences following the death of Rev. Jesse Jackson, an influential American civil rights leader who passed away at the age of 84.

In his statement, Tinubu described Jackson as a "servant leader" who dedicated his life to fighting for the dignity of Black people and the voiceless in the United States and around the world. Tinubu recalled Jackson's rise to global prominence as a young activist and his ongoing struggle for racial justice, particularly following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

Jackson played a pivotal role in advocating for the improvement of social and economic conditions for African Americans and was instrumental in the election of the first Black president of the United States. Tinubu noted Jackson's significant contributions to the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa and his efforts to mobilize international support against the apartheid regime.

He also acknowledged Jackson's role as a special envoy to Nigeria and Africa under former U.S. presidents from 1997 to 1999, promoting civil liberties and strengthening democratic institutions across the continent.
