Wole Soyinka Criticizes Security Deployment Around President's Family Amid Benin Coup

Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka criticized the excessive security presence around the President's family, questioning the security priorities in Nigeria. He suggested that instead of deploying NAF jets, political figures like Tinubu should have taken more direct action to stop the Benin coup.

Tinubu's confirmation of sending ground troops to Benin to assist in foiling the coup plot led to Nigerian Air Force involvement. The military intervention in Benin was in response to requests for support from Benin's President Patric Talon.

Meanwhile, journalist Muhammad Yusuf won an award for investigative reporting on illicit drug trade in Nigeria.
