Tinubu to Sign 30% Value Addition Bill for Local Processing

The Senate announced that President Bola Tinubu is anticipated to sign the 30% Value Addition Bill into law in November. This legislation mandates local processing of raw materials before export, aiming to decrease Nigeria's reliance on exporting unprocessed materials.
Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology, made this announcement during the Second Africa Raw Materials Summit in Abuja. The bill, which was passed by the 10th Assembly in July 2025, requires at least 30% local processing of Nigerian raw materials.
It is designed to encourage domestic industries to process minerals and agricultural products locally, thereby creating jobs and retaining economic value within Nigeria. Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, Director-General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, projected that the policy could generate over 1.2 million skilled jobs within five years.
The council is focused on bridging the gap between research and industrial production through policies that promote local beneficiation.
