Crisis Warning in South East Over Kanu's Detention - Elder Statesman Urges Political Solution

Elder statesman Chike Obidigbo warned President Bola Tinubu of a potential crisis in the South East due to the continued detention of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. Obidigbo urged Tinubu to adopt a political solution to avoid destabilizing the region and sparking national unrest.

He expressed concern over Kanu's deteriorating health and criticized the silence of Nigeria's political elite, likening Kanu's situation to Nelson Mandela's unjust prosecution. Obidigbo faulted the government for its handling of insurgencies, contrasting Kanu's treatment with that of armed bandits who received amnesty.

He accused South East leaders of cowardice. The call for restructuring was emphasized as a democratic choice.
