Pius Anyim Defends Tinubu's Absence at UNGA

Former Senate President Pius Anyim, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, commented on President Bola Tinubu’s absence from the ongoing United Nations General Assembly in New York, stating it should not be an issue. Anyim explained that Tinubu delegated the responsibility to Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is representing Nigeria at the 80th session of the UNGA.

Tinubu had initially planned to return to Nigeria after a short working vacation but extended his stay for a private visit and other engagements. Anyim noted that the Vice President has the constitutional authority to represent the country and that concerns over the President's absence are unwarranted.

He clarified that the UNGA consists of the General Assembly and various side meetings, which the Vice President can adequately handle. Anyim also dismissed worries about Tinubu missing a potential meeting with U.S.

President Donald Trump, stating that such engagements are typically scheduled in advance. He pointed out that many world leaders also choose not to attend the assembly in person.
