Tinubu's OPL 245 Settlement to Boost Nigeria's Economy

Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, emphasized that the resolution of the OPL 245 dispute will significantly reposition Nigeria's economy and strengthen the country's fiscal muscle. He praised President Bola Tinubu's visionary leadership, which enabled the breakthrough in this long-standing dispute.

The legal agreement, signed in Abuja, marks a milestone in Nigeria's oil and gas sector, concluding a two-decade legal battle involving international arbitration between the federal government and Eni and Nigerian AGIP Exploration. Fagbemi noted that resolving the dispute will recalibrate the nation's economy and bolster the federal government's fiscal position.

He highlighted that the settlement demonstrates Nigeria's commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law, and will culminate in a consent arbitration award. The resolution is expected to remove legal and fiscal uncertainties that have previously hindered the development of the oil block, paving the way for large-scale investments, job creation, and reinforcing Nigeria's position as a leading energy producer in Africa.
