Heirs Insurance Celebrates Five Years of Growth in Nigeria

Heirs Insurance, established by Tony Elumelu, marks its fifth anniversary in June 2026. The journey began with the challenging process of obtaining operational licenses, which took eight years due to regulatory hurdles.

The company finally launched in 2020 alongside Heirs Tower on June 1, 2021. Since then, it has served nearly two million customers across Nigeria and has been recognized as the 7th fastest-growing life assurance company and the 41st in general insurance in Africa.

Heirs Insurance aims to disrupt the traditional insurance model by heavily leveraging digital platforms and offering microinsurance products. Despite the low insurance penetration in Nigeria, which remains below 3% of GDP, the company continues to advocate for increased awareness and education on risk management.

Key figures in the company include Niyi Onifade, CEO of Heirs Life Assurance, and Wole Fayemi, CEO of Heirs General Insurance. Elumelu's philosophy emphasizes patience and perseverance in building a successful business.
