Court Clears ₦40 Billion Defamation Suit Against Wike for Hearing

The High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has cleared a ₦40 billion defamation suit filed by Tonye Cole, a former APC governorship candidate in River State, against the Minister of Federal Capital Territory for hearing. Cole alleges that the Minister made defamatory remarks during a TV appearance, leading to significant reputational harm.

Cole is seeking damages, a public apology, and a retraction of the statements. The court has set a hearing date for March 25, 2026.

Jibrin Okutepa, representing Cole, emphasized the need for justice and accountability in the case.
