As of March 2026, Imo State has been identified as one of the most affordable states to live in Nigeria, recording an annual inflation rate of 11.99%, slightly up from 11.7% in February. The food inflation rate in the state rose significantly to 12.7% in March from 7.6% in February, indicating increased pressure on household food spending.

Governor Hope Uzodimma's administration has introduced a budget of N1.44 trillion, designed to stimulate economic activity and improve purchasing power across the state. The budget emphasizes capital expenditure, accounting for 83.4%, focusing on long-term infrastructure and economic development rather than recurrent spending.

Key priorities include significant investments in agriculture, aiming to increase food production by 25% and reduce post-harvest losses by 30%.
