ECOWAS Applauds Nigeria for Thwarting Benin Coup Attempt

During the 55th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council in Abuja, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray commended Nigeria for swiftly intervening to prevent a coup in Benin Republic.

He highlighted the importance of regional collaboration to protect democracy and tackle security threats like terrorism and banditry. The session also discussed the humanitarian impact of insecurity in the sub-region, with UNHCR data showing millions displaced.

Urgent actions were called for to confront these challenges and ensure regional stability.
