Trump Orders U.S. Ship Escorts Through Hormuz Strait

On Sunday, Donald Trump expressed support for ongoing discussions aimed at resolving the crisis with Iran. He announced that the United States would soon initiate the escorting of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil transport.

This decision comes after a series of military confrontations, including an attack on February 28 that killed a leader of the Islamic Republic. Esmail Baqaei, a spokesman for Iran's foreign ministry, indicated that Iran is aware of the discussions taking place.

The U.S. aims to ensure safe navigation in the Gulf, particularly as humanitarian concerns arise for vessels running low on supplies. Trump emphasized that this initiative, termed "Project Freedom," would commence on Monday morning, with the goal of facilitating business in the region.

As of April 29, there were 900 commercial vessels located in the Gulf, according to maritime intelligence firm Axsmarin.
