Trump Claims Russia, Ukraine Agree to Halt Energy Attacks

On 15 September 2026, US President Donald Trump claimed via his Truth Social platform that Russia and Ukraine have reached an agreement to stop attacking each other's energy facilities. This announcement followed Trump's criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for targeting Russian oil refineries, which he argued was exacerbating global diesel price increases.

Trump stated, “Ukraine has agreed not to hit Russian Energy targets. Russia has agreed to do, likewise!” However, Ukraine's presidency did not comment on this claim, and there was no immediate response from Moscow.

Trump also linked the rise in global diesel prices to the Russia-Ukraine conflict rather than the ongoing war involving Iran. He had previously urged Zelenskyy to avoid targeting diesel refineries to prevent further shortages.

Despite Trump's assertion of a willingness from both sides to negotiate, the Kremlin rejected the possibility of a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin at the upcoming G20 summit in Miami.
