Trump Seeks Global Help to Secure Strait of Hormuz

On Monday, President Donald Trump reached out to multiple countries for assistance in policing the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil transport. This request comes as the world faces economic unease due to energy price surges and potential food shortages affecting poorer nations.

Trump did not specify which countries he had contacted, but previous appeals included nations like China, France, Japan, South Korea, and Britain. The price of Brent crude oil fell to $100.21 per barrel, remaining approximately 40% higher since the onset of the war.

Fatih Birol, head of the International Energy Agency, noted that member countries have added reserves of 1.4 billion barrels to address supply constraints. U.S. military command in the Middle East, led by Admiral Brad Cooper, is focused on neutralizing threats from Iran against oil-carrying freighters.

Meanwhile, discussions are taking place in Brussels among European Union foreign ministers regarding the possibility of extending naval missions to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
