Judd Trump Eliminated in First Round of China Open

Judd Trump suffered a shocking first-round defeat at the China Open on Sunday, losing 6-3 to Thailand's Noppon Saengkham, who is ranked 45th in the world. Saengkham's victory sets him up for a second-round match against either Ronnie O’Sullivan or Jackson Page.

Trump initially leveled the match after trailing by two frames but ultimately lost control as Saengkham won three consecutive frames, including a match-high break of 120. The final frame concluded with Saengkham winning 78-0.

Trump, who previously won the China Open in 2011 and 2016, entered the tournament after winning the Shanghai Masters against Kyren Wilson. However, he has only secured one ranking tournament victory in the past two years, the German Masters in February.

The China Open, returning to the World Snooker Tour calendar for the first time since 2019, is now held in Taiyuan, located 310 miles southwest of Beijing. Trump must win the upcoming Wuhan Open to have a chance of retaining his world number one ranking, currently threatened by Zhao Xintong, Neil Robertson, and Wu Yize.
