Ulama, others flay gov’t over deal with Israel

Ulama and other groups have criticized the Nigerian government for considering a security partnership with Israel. The Ulama Forum expressed concern over the decision, stating that Israel is facing internal security challenges and may not offer a credible solution to Nigeria's security problems.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) also condemned the collaboration, calling Israel a terrorist state. Meanwhile, the head of the Palestinian community in Nigeria, Abu Ramzi Ibrahim, was reportedly detained by security operatives in Abuja, although the details remain unconfirmed.

Despite criticism, some argue that a security agreement with Israel is not unusual, as Nigeria has diplomatic relations with many countries, including Israel. The government maintains that such agreements are common for intelligence sharing and military cooperation.

Former diplomats and officials believe that Nigeria's priority should be curbing violence and insecurity, especially with elections approaching.
