University of Abuja Faces Controversy Over Vice-Chancellor Appointment Process

The University of Abuja is embroiled in controversy over the possible appointment of Prof. Aisha Sani Maikudi as the Vice-Chancellor.

Allegations suggest that the application of a professor who supervised Maikudi's PhD was denied in favor of Maikudi, the current Acting Vice-Chancellor. The situation has raised concerns about favoritism and unfair practices in the selection process.

The controversy intensified when the Pro-Chancellor, Air Vice Marshal Sadiq Ismaila Kaita (Retd), who shares a hometown with Maikudi in Katsina, allegedly disqualified the application of the professor who supervised Maikudi's PhD. The University's governance council has expressed outrage over the exclusion of the professor from the shortlist for the Vice-Chancellor position.

The appointment process has been questioned for its lack of transparency and adherence to criteria. Efforts to reach the University's officials for comments have been unsuccessful.
