UNICEF Launches Climate Resilience Project in Katsina

UNICEF launched the Climate Resilience Infrastructure Basic Services (CRIB II) project in Katsina State on Tuesday. The initiative, supported by the United Kingdom's Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), aims to strengthen 24 primary healthcare facilities and schools to withstand the growing impacts of climate change.
Uba Lawal, a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) specialist from UNICEF's Kano field office, explained that the project will cover four local government areas, focusing on upgrading water and sanitation facilities. The goal is to ensure essential health and education services continue uninterrupted during climate-related emergencies.
The project has already been implemented in Kano and Jigawa states, benefiting 84 facilities in its first phase. The work in Katsina is part of a broader strategy to enhance resilience against climate hazards, including floods, heat stress, droughts, and windstorms.
Contractors will collaborate closely with government officials to detail renovation plans and monitor the project's effectiveness.
