UNICEF Calls for Research-Based Child Policies in Nigeria

At the Knowledge Management Summit 2026 held in Abuja, UNICEF Representative in Nigeria, Wafaa Saeed, called on the Nigerian government to base child policies on research. She stressed that knowledge management should extend beyond mere information collection and storage, advocating for the translation of research findings into policies and programs that yield measurable and sustainable results.

Saeed highlighted the necessity of including children and young people in the knowledge generation process, asserting that they should not just be recipients of information but active participants in shaping the knowledge that influences decisions. Suzanne Suh from the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office emphasized the role of research and evaluations in evidence-based decision-making and accountability.

Wayne Bacale, UNICEF Nigeria’s Chief of Planning and Monitoring, concluded that the summit should lead to concrete actions rather than just discussions, indicating that the sharing of knowledge must evolve into a continuous process.
