Union Bank Achieves Global Payment Data Security Certification

Union Bank of Nigeria has secured certification under the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) version 4.0.1, effective August 11, 2026. This global standard is designed to protect payment card account data.

The certification process assessed various aspects of the bank's operations, including network infrastructure, card issuance, ATM and POS transaction acquiring, payment processing, reconciliation, settlement, chargeback, dispute resolution, and retail banking. Union Bank was certified in the Service Provider category after a year-long assessment that involved quarterly reviews and collaboration with departmental heads, alongside security firm Digital Encode.

The final independent audit was conducted by CyberCube, an accredited Qualified Security Assessor. Yetunde Oni, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, stated that the certification underscores the bank's commitment to customer data security and reflects the efforts of its employees.

This renewal ensures ongoing compliance with PCI DSS, aligning with the Central Bank of Nigeria's requirements for continuous certification without gaps.
