Iran Closes Hormuz Strait Amid US Blockade Tensions

On Saturday, Iran's military declared the Hormuz Strait closed again, citing a response to the ongoing US blockade. This closure comes as a significant concern for global oil markets, given that the strait is a crucial passage for approximately one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas.

The Iranian military command stated that the strait would reopen after a dozen commercial ships passed through. This development casts doubt on US President Donald Trump's optimistic statements regarding a peace deal to end the US-Israel war with Iran.

Despite ongoing diplomatic talks, tensions remain high, with Iran threatening to shut the strait again. The situation is further complicated by Iran's stockpile of near weapon-grade enriched uranium, which is a sticking point in negotiations.

The Iranian foreign ministry has asserted that its enriched uranium will not be transferred anywhere, emphasizing the ongoing stalemate in discussions aimed at securing a final agreement.
