U.S. Government Issues Security Alert Ahead of Nnamdi Kanu Protest in Abuja

The U.S. government has reacted to the planned Nnamdi Kanu protest in Abuja spearheaded by activist Sowore, issuing a security alert for American citizens in Nigeria. The protest, scheduled for October 20, demands the release of the embattled IPOB leader.

The American Embassy in Abuja has cautioned against potential confrontations with the police and advised limiting movement within Abuja on the protest day. Kanu currently faces terrorism charges in the Federal High Court Abuja following his controversial extradition from Kenya in June 2021.
