U.S. Orders Evacuation from Abuja Amid Security Concerns

The U.S. government has issued an evacuation order for non-emergency personnel and their families from Abuja, Nigeria, due to a deteriorating security situation. The U.S.

Department of State has classified Nigeria at a Level 3 travel advisory, urging reconsideration of travel due to risks associated with crime, terrorism, unrest, and kidnapping. The advisory highlights that the security situation is unstable and uncertain, particularly in northern and southern states such as Borno, Jigawa, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara, which are rated at Level 4 due to high risks of terrorism and crime.

Additionally, the advisory warns against travel to southern states including Delta, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Enugu, and parts of Rivers due to similar threats. The U.S. government emphasizes the limited and inconsistent healthcare services in Nigeria, advising citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program and exercise caution.
