NLC Urges Government Action as Petrol Hits N1,500/Litre

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), led by President Joe Ajaero, has called on the Federal Government to urgently implement measures to address the rising petrol prices, which have reached N1,500 per litre in states such as Kano, Yobe, Sokoto, Borno, Taraba, and Zamfara. The NLC's statement highlights that petrol prices are approximately N1,430 per litre in major cities, with higher prices in less accessible areas.

The organization warns that the escalating costs will worsen economic hardships, as increased transportation costs lead to higher prices for essential goods and services. Fuel marketers have echoed the NLC's concerns, predicting that prices could escalate to N2,000 per litre if international crude oil prices continue to rise.

In Yobe State, petrol prices range from N1,500 to N1,520 per litre, while in Kano, prices are between N1,460 and N1,500 per litre. The increase has prompted some vehicle owners to stop using their cars and has led to a 50% fare increase among commercial tricycle operators.
