US-Iran Talks in Pakistan End Without Agreement

High-level negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, Pakistan, ended without an agreement after nearly 21 hours of discussions, marking the highest level of engagement since the 1979 Iranian Revolution. US Vice President JD Vance disclosed that the talks aimed to secure assurances that Iran would not pursue nuclear weapon development.

However, the US did not receive a fundamental commitment from Tehran to halt its nuclear ambitions. Despite the deadlock, Vance indicated that the US would allow Iran time to consider proposals.

The negotiations were facilitated by Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue. Iran's Foreign Minister Abba Araghchi and US officials, including Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, participated in the talks.

Iran's parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, criticized the US for unreasonable demands. The discussions were complicated by ongoing hostilities involving Israel and Hezbollah, with recent Israeli strikes in Lebanon resulting in casualties.
