U.S. Lawmaker Critiques Tinubu Over Security Aid Issues

U.S. lawmaker Moore, representing West Virginia's 2nd district, criticized President Tinubu's government for not meeting the conditions set for U.S. security assistance to Nigeria. In a post on X, he urged the U.S.

Secretary of State to account for the upcoming funding cycle, which covers fiscal years 2026 and 2027. Moore's remarks followed previous criticisms of the Nigerian government regarding insecurity, particularly violence affecting Christian communities.

He accused the federal government of failing to justify the billion-dollar military assistance received from Washington, alleging continued violence against Christians. Moore warned that prolonged inaction could worsen the situation, arguing that despite years of U.S. support, including training and equipment provision, the crisis persists without adequate response from Nigerian authorities.

The Nigerian government, however, rejected claims that its security challenges are primarily religiously motivated, asserting that violence affects both Christians and Muslims and is part of broader security issues. The U.S. military confirmed the arrival of 100 personnel in Nigeria in February as part of efforts to strengthen the country's capacity to combat evolving security threats.
