US to Deploy 200 Troops to Nigeria to Combat Insurgency

The United States has announced the deployment of 200 troops to Nigeria to support the country's armed forces in combating insurgency in the northern region. This decision comes after a visit by General Dagvin Anderson of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) to Nigeria, where he engaged with top Nigerian officials including President Bola Tinubu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Defense Minister Christoph Musa, Chief of Defense Staff Olufemi Oluyede, and other security officials.

The US aims to enhance Nigeria's operational capabilities, particularly in intelligence gathering and surveillance. The deployment is part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria's independent operational capacity, focusing on counterterrorism efforts.

The move follows a recent missile strike by US forces on suspected terrorist enclaves in Bauni Forest, Tangaza, Sokoto State. The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the strike as a precise hit based on shared intelligence and strategic coordination.
