Uzodinma Screened for Imo West Senate, May Resign as Governor

Hope Uzodinma, the current Governor of Imo State, successfully underwent screening for the Imo West senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday. He is set to contest in the party's primary elections ahead of the national assembly elections scheduled for January 2027.

If Uzodinma wins the senatorial seat, he will be sworn in June 2027 and plans to resign from his governorship position approximately 6 to 7 months before the end of his term, which runs until mid-January 2028. During the interim, Deputy Ladi Chinyere Ekomaru will assume office as the Governor of Imo State starting January 15, 2024, serving alongside Uzodinma, who is in his second term.
