Vandals Steal ₦1.8 Million Cable from Jigawa School

On Thursday, July 30, 2026, at approximately 2 a.m., more than 10 suspected vandals invaded Government Unity School in Ringim, Jigawa State, overpowering three security guards on duty. They vandalized and stole 12 metres of 75mm² armoured cable connected to the school's transformer, plunging the school into darkness.

The estimated value of the stolen cable ranges from ₦900,000 to ₦1.05 million. ASC Badruddeen Tijjani, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Jigawa State Command, confirmed the incident.

Following a distress call, personnel from the NSCDC Ringim Divisional Office responded promptly, recovering exhibits and evidence to aid in the investigation. CC Muhammad Ingawa, the Jigawa State Commandant of the NSCDC, condemned the attack as a criminal assault on critical national assets and directed an intensive manhunt for the suspects.

He urged security personnel to remain vigilant and called on residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
