Nigeria's Vehicle and Parts Imports from US Surge to $985 Million in 2025

Nigeria's import of motor vehicles and parts from the United States reached $985 million in the first 10 months of 2025, marking a substantial rise from $543 million in the corresponding period of 2024. The data from the US Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis revealed that vehicle-related imports from the US to Nigeria grew by $442 million, representing an 81.4% year-on-year increase.

Passenger cars accounted for the bulk of the inflow, with Nigeria importing vehicles worth $727 million year-to-date in 2025 compared to $411 million in the same period in 2024. The import of trucks, buses, and special purpose vehicles also doubled within the review period, indicating growth in logistics, construction, and transport industries.

The data underscores the sustained demand for US-made cars in Nigeria despite foreign exchange pressures and rising import costs. The figures also reflect the constraints faced by local manufacturers, as Nigeria continues to rely heavily on imported vehicle components.
