Governor Fubara Announces Defection to APC Amid Political Turmoil in River State

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of River State has officially defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move comes after a series of political conflicts, including attempts to impeach Fubara by pro-Wike members of the River State House of Assembly.

The situation escalated to the point of arson attacks on the state assembly complex, leading to the federal government's intervention. President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in River State, suspending Fubara's deputy Ngozi Odu and appointing Ibok Ekw Iba as the sole administrator.

The suspension was lifted in September 2025.
