Civil Society Slams Anambra Governor Soludo for Alleged Vote-Buying Promises

Civil society organizations have condemned Anambra State Governor Soludo for allegedly promising party support amounting to 1 million naira during a campaign rally in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area. The move has been criticized as potentially institutionalizing vote-buying, with activists like Debo Adeniran and former INEC chairman Joash Amupitan calling for intervention to prevent the erosion of democratic values.

Alhaji Yabagi Sani and Yiaga Africa Election Monitor Group have also expressed concerns, urging INEC, police, and EFCC to investigate. Jennifer Dafwat emphasized the need for stricter penalties for politicians engaged in vote-buying, highlighting the deep-rooted issue in Nigeria's political culture.
