WAEC Disowns Fake Security Deployment Letter for Exams

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially disowned a fraudulent letter circulating in the media that claimed the council had finalized plans to deploy security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to examination centres nationwide beginning June 1, 2026. Moyosola Adesina, the head of the Public Affairs Department at WAEC, stated that the letter, dated May 27, 2026, and purportedly addressed to school proprietors and principals across the country, was a fabrication aimed at creating panic and disrupting the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Adesina noted that the letter bore a forged signature of S.D. Kum, the Senior Deputy Registrar and Head of Test Administration at WAEC.

She emphasized that the letter did not originate from the office of the Senior Deputy Registrar of the Test Administration Department within WAEC Nigeria.
