Labour Party Faction Rejects INEC's Recognition of New Leadership, Legal Battle Ensues

The Labour Party faction led by Obiora Ifoh has rejected the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)'s intervention in recognizing Nenadi Usman's caretaker committee as the authentic leadership, following the removal of the Abure-led leadership. INEC's decision, reflected on its website, naming Usman as the interim national chairperson, has sparked controversy.

Obiora Ifoh, the faction's national public secretary, criticized INEC's actions as hasty and prejudicial, aiming to sabotage the existing leadership. The LP faction has filed an appeal against the court judgment that sacked the Abure-led national working committee.

Meanwhile, Nenadi Usman, leading the caretaker leadership, expressed satisfaction with INEC's decision, acknowledging the court's ruling. Ken Asogwa, a senior special adviser to Usman, welcomed the development.
